Assets of Chidambaram’s wife, others seized in Saradha scam

The ED on Friday said it has attached assets worth Rs 6.3 crore in the Saradha money laundering case. The owners of the assets include Nalini Chidambaram, wife of former finance minister P Chidambaram. The ED said movable assets worth Rs 3.3 crore and properties worth over Rs 3 crore have been attached in an ongoing probe against Saradha group of companies. The agency added that these properties were owned by the Saradha group and other persons who were beneficiaries of the proceeds of crime. Any woman residing in India either temporarily or permanently is entitled to seek relief from a court of law under the Domestic Violence Act even if her spouse lives outside the country, the Madras HC said. "The cause of action arises in India since the aggrieved person is residing here, even if abused economically by the spouse residing in another country," he said.
