Lift comes crashing down at 40-storey Thane tower, 6 die

The labourers were descending to the basement after wrapping up work for the day when the rope of the service lift at Runwal Eirene, in Balkum locality, snapped and the lift came hurtling down to the ground floor-level. The cause of the mishap was not immediately known. A media statement issued by Dhruva Woollen Mills Pvt Ltd said the elevator had been "under continuous surveillance and is serviced under an existing annual maintenance contract".
