India set to open Seattle consulate, appoints consul general

India has appointed Prakash Gupta as the first consul general in Seattle, finally operationalizing the long-awaited consulate in the US Pacific Northwest. The consulate in Seattle, a technology hub with a large population of Indian nationals and multinational companies, was announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the US in June. This move is part of India's plan to open consulates in two other US cities, while the US plans to open consulates in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. Seattle will become the sixth US city to have an Indian consulate.
